This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so.
Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included, with the permission of the publishers, where these are available.
RECORD GRADING
EXCELLENT
There is almost nothing on any of the 6 sides of this set to suggest these records have ever been played, which is confirmed when listened to. All 6 sides gleam as if new and play with almost no surface noise. The sound quality throughout is excellent, the playing superb.
There are, however, three observations I noted when viewing and listening to these records:
Disc 1 (ASD 3170) has a slight warp. It can be seen as the record rotates but it has no effect at all on the sound.
On Disc 2 (ASD 3171), side 1, there is a 4mm hairline mark – at about 10 o’clock – which, after 2 minutes 45 seconds of the side, does produce repetitive light clicks over a period of about a minute.
On Disc 3 (ASD 3172), side 1, there is at 8 o’clock, about 4 minutes before the end of the side, a mark about the size of a pinhead. It is a spot, not a scratch, and I think it is almost certainly a pressing fault. It does produce repetitive clicks/pops over a period of about 25 seconds.
COVER GRADING
VERY GOOD
The box is entirely sound. The corners have been scuffed a little but are not damaged. The front face and edges have some noticeable rubbings on them and there are some pressure marks on the front. The back, too, has some marks on it but the spine is intact and unmarked. The inside of the box is clean and free from any evidence of damp or damage.
The records have been well kept in their clear acetate EMI inner sleeves.
The 4 page Insert is clean, unmarked and undamaged

MINT Record In brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality Cover In perfect condition, as are extra items such as thelyric sheet, booklet or poster EXCELLENT Record Shows signs of having been played, but with very little lessening in sound quality Cover Slight wear and / or creasing to the cover or its contents VERY GOOD Record Obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch Cover Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects GOOD Record Played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, and there may be some distortion and mild scratches Cover Suffers from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
