Adrian Harrington Ltd
elvis presley. rock n roll lp
HMV Catalogue No. CLP1093 (mono only).
Elvis' scarce first LP, available for a short period only and now a major rarity; originally issued in the UK in November 1956 by HMV, and within eighteen months this record was one of three ( together with 'Rock n Roll No2' and the 'Best of' 10"LP) to be deleted following the RCA buy-out of the Elvis catalogue.
1956 FIRST (and only) pressing on HMV label, with the traditional 'Nipper the dog' logo on a burgundy background, lettered in gilt.
Please note; Actual item for sale is shown and photographs are not enhanced. We understand the importance of viewing records prior to sale and have attempted to provide a full range of pictures to show this item in an honest light. RECORD LABELS;
1956 (1st) press; printed with 'The Gramophone Co.' on a ridged label.
The embossed tax code is RT, which still stands proud and is not rubbed or smoothed down. The labels are clean and bright with sharp lettering. There are just a few spindle trails and one small nick to rim of side 1 otherwise no other marks, scuffs, stickers or writing. A nice clean pair of labels.
VINYL;
Condition of record on both sides is very good, retaining a fine gloss; more specifically there are some surface marks and light scratches, plus a few finger marks, hairlines etc and some paper scuff. This remains a decent copy of this record and is accurately graded- the vast majority are played to ruin and whilst showing use, this one still has plenty of play left. All the HMV Elvis LPs are notoriously tough to find in truly fine condition and such copies command a hefty price tag (valued at £550 in the Rare Record Price Guide). This is not at that level but should not be dismissed either. Properly graded and will not disappoint if you are looking for an accurate 'very good' copy of this legendary rocker.
THE COVER;
Laminated flipback sleeve. These fifties covers are made from thin card and are infamous for disintigrating through continued handling; this example is fair to good with edgewear, scuffs, and some taped repairs. Rear of sleeve has a loss to the leading edge and some surface abrasion affecting a portion of text. Honestly, this is not as bad as many other copies out there and doesn't show too badly when displayed in a plastic cover (included)- but if you're seeking a non-feathered, complete and handsome example then there are two points to note- firstly, don't bid on this one, and secondly, you'll need all the luck in the world!
Until then, this may be a worthy alternative.
