ELVIS PRESLEY "HOW GREAT THOU ART" Original U.S. 1967 RCA Victor monaural gospel album w/"Crying In The Chapel". Mono LPM-3758. M/M-
In 1967, Elvis took a break from his movie soundtrack recordings & released a heartfelt gospel album. He delved deep into his Southern Gospel roots as well as the Black Gospel tradition on the 13 songs contained here. Songs from his favorites such as the Blackwood Brothers & the Statesmen Quartet are represented as well as Southern Spirituals from the Golden Gate Quartet & others. As a bonus, the 1965 #3 hit "Crying In The Chapel" is included on this album making it's first appearance on LP. Originally a country record by Darrell Glenn, it had become an R&B staple when recorded by Sonny Till & the Orioles in the early 50s. Other noteworthy songs are the rousing "So High" & the title track. Backing vocals by the Jordanaires & the Imperials Quartet. "How Great Thou Art" earned Elvis the only Grammy award of his career. This LP is the original 1967 monaural pressing with the black "dog on top" label.
13 tracks- How Great Thou Art, In The Garden, Somebody Bigger Than You And I, Farther Along, Stand By Me, Without Him, So High, Where Could I Go But To The Lord, By And By, If The Lord Wasn't Walking By My Side, Run On, Where No One Stands Alone & Crying In The Chapel.
Cover looks virtually brand new. The only flaw would be negligible corner wear on the lower right. There is no writing or split seams. Rated in MINT condition. Record plays great with one small mark on side 1 that does not affect play. Record is graded at near MINT. The black "Dog On Top" RCA labels still look great. They have "Mono Dynagroove" printed in the bottom center proving that this is an original mono pressing from 1967.
