Description
Rare (especially in this condition), original UK 1956 7" single, purple label/silver print, with removable centre:
ELVIS PRESLEY - HOUND DOG c/w DON'T BE CRUEL
On the HMV record label with catalogue number HMV POP 249
A TRULY EXCELLENT CONDITION ORIGINAL COPY, WITH WONDERFUL AUDIO CLARITY!
Matrix Numbers : Side 1 - 7XAV 1471 - 1N, Side 2 - 7XAV - 1472 - 1N, with stampers " X RT 1", and "0", on side 1 and "X RT 1" and "R" on side 2.
The vinyl is in overall EXCELLENT condition - flat, no beneath-the-surface scratches (in fact, no scratches at all!), no warping whatsoever, and still retains a deep glossy sheen. There are a few faint, strictly surface only hairlines which can only be detected under a bright light...in normal daylight the vinyl has the appearance of near perfection. These faint hairlines have only come about through handling in and out of the outer sleeve.
The labels are excellent also, and with no surface blemishes at all except for a couple of very light spindle trails on each side adjacent to the centre hole (hardly noticeable). Unlike many of the purple/gold and purple/silver Elvis singles emanating from this era the silver writing has not faded and the purple background remains a solid purple...no fading and blemish free.
The quality of the audio is truly wonderful! These are the songs that changed the face of music and set the scene for not only the 50's but also the 60's and 70's and beyond, and listening to these classic tracks on vinyl underlines why...simply terrific! No distortion, no skips or clicks, the merest hint of some very, very faint background crackle in a couple of places but to all intents and purposes neglible.
Comes with original HMV multi coloured rhombus shaped outer sleeve which is still fully functional and in overall excellent condition.
A super copy of a timeless classic which influenced so many later singers and bands. Considering that this is now 57 years old I doubt that there are many of the original purple label/silver writing copies in better condition than this.

My record grading adheres to the “Record Collector” guide, which has established a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records. These indicate the amount of wear and tear the disc, sleeve, and other items (such as lyric inserts) have been subject to and the condition that they are in at present. The seven standard condition categories, and descriptions of what each one means, are listed below:
Mint
The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.
Very Good
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
Fair
The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced
Poor
The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad
The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
