Description

ELVIS PRESLEY "HOW GREAT THOU ART" Original stereo pressing of 1967 Gospel classic LP (RCA Victor) LSP-3758. VG/M-. Contains the hit "Crying In The Chapel" as a bonus track. 

We first got a glimpse of Elvis Presley's love for Gospel music when he sang “Peace In The Valley” on his last Ed Sullivan TV Show appearance in 1957. That song, along with 3 other sacred performances- “I Believe”, “It Is No Secret” & “Take My Hand Precious Lord” were released on the “Peace In The Valley” EP & helped America change their opinion about “The Hillbilly Cat” from Memphis. Elvis' first full-length album of Gospel material was 1961's "His Hand In Mine" one of his first projects after returning from the Army. His second Gospel recording was 1967's “How Great Thou Art”. As with "His Hand In Mine", he combines familiar songs in the Black gospel tradition with newer material often performed by Southern Gospel groups such as the Blackwood Brothers & the Statesmen Quartet. Highlights include his heartfelt, solemn version of “How Great Thou Art” & the bonus track- “Crying In The Chapel” which was recorded in 1961 during the “His Hand In Mine” sessions but omitted from that LP. It became a surprise #3 hit when released as a single in 1965 at the height of the British Invasion era. The song is most familiar by Sonny Til & the Orioles with their hit R&B recording from 1953 although it started life by Darrell Glenn, the songwriters Country & Western oriented son.

Cover looks good w/minor shelf & corner wear plus a slight 3/4" flaw near the top of the right opening.  The record w/black RCA dog-on-top "Stereo Dynagroove" labels (no spindle marks) sounds great w/no scratches & scuffs & has received very few plays
