1st Issue Textured Gate Fold Cover! Complete with booklet!
Elton John "Madman Across the Water" 1st UK pressing. Played and recorded at loud volume on a top system despite some very feint surface marks noted on the playing surface this plays through lovely with just the odd isolated static type pop heard and isolated static type ticks. Still a truely enjoyable record that is nearly 50 years old I would grade the audio at least excellent in my opinion! The vinyl is the earliest translucent vinyl very collectable. The 1st issue textured gatefold is lovely and complete with the original booklet but it is noted that the middle two pages have come away from the fasteners.

Madman Across the Water is the fourth studio album by Elton John, released in 1971 through DJM and Uni Records.
This was the last album to feature John's regular touring band (Dee Murray and Nigel Olsson) on only a single song.
Later band member, percussionist Ray Cooper, makes his first appearance with this album.
As with all John songs during this period, the lyrics were penned by his writing partner, Bernie Taupin.
This was the last album to be recorded at London's Trident Studios, although subsequent albums would be remixed or overdubbed at Trident.
Caleb Quaye and Roger Pope wouldn't play with John again until Rock of the Westies in 1975, following Murray and Olsson's departure from the band.
Madman Across the Water barely reached No. 41 on the UK Albums Chart, spending only two weeks there.
The album fared much better in North America, peaking at No. 8 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums and placing at No. 10 on the year-end list of 1972.
It received Gold by the RIAA in February 1972, achieving $1 million in sales at wholesale value just in the United States.
In 1993, the album was certified Platinum, representing shipments of more than 1 million units in the US.
In 1998, the album was certified Multi-Platinum, representing shipments of over 2 million units in the US.In May 2017 the album was certified Silver for sales of 60,000 units by the British Phonographic Industry.
The title song was set to be released on John's previous album Tumbleweed Connection. However, it was set aside and was re-recorded for this album. The earlier version (with Mick Ronson on guitar) was included on the remastered Tumbleweed Connection CD. When it was released in 'The Classic Years' collection, it was the first album not to feature any bonus tracks.

The vinyl is of a substantial weight compared to later press which are much more flimsier! On initial inspection of the playing surface has retained its original sheen from new and indeed looks and lays perfectly flat on the turntable. (Please note! I have double checked this, no warping) This is free of any warping. (Note: When looking at the vinyl to the light, the vinyl is translucent red (only 1st pressings) It is noticed that there are some light feint surface marks/scratches, importantly Nothing too bad in my opinion that would cause any more than the odd isolated pops or static ticks , nothing that would cause any skips or jumps No Distortion Stunning Top Audio Quality! The audio is awesome throughout clear and very vibrant only heard like this on the earliest pressings( Hear for yourself in the player above) Any other marks that there could possibly be would be light whispy sleeve removal scuff type only.
The Audio Quality
I have played this vinyl two times prior to listing, at very loud volume on a top system, This 49 year old vinyl plays through supebly! Just listen to the separation and the clarity! The audio is absolutely beautiful, crystal clear and very vibrant with that deep bassey feel , only found like this on these earliest originals! It is noted that there were isolated static type ticks and isolated pops heard but nothing too bad in my opinion! There are Certainly no skips or jumps! This plays without the usual background surface noise that is so often heard on these early pressings. I would grade the audio at least excellent!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this album and those who know the listings and vinyls that i sell my prime interest is the audio quality! Please allow for the odd isolated static crackle /tick/ticks , but nothing heard consistent through out the audio! No Loud constant clicks or pops! This is a genuine (not) reissue vinyl that is 49 years old and would have been played on a system that is 49 years old!
Please note, this album has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 49 years or more. A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static\ crackle. A constant clean before each play is recommended. This will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. Points to note, I notice debrit on the playing surface after play so this will need cleaning before each play which will further enhance this audio quality.
The Labels
This is the original black/silver/yelow DJM labels! (correct for this 1971 pressing) A truly unique becoming scarce copy in lovely condition!
There is (no) spindle ware (the hole is perfectly round) see photo. Just minimal Spidering can be seen in strong light!
The Record Sleeve
This is a plain white paper record sleeve no edge splits or tears. light staining/browning/creasing with age only. Made In England and Patented The vinyl is always stored separately from the cover and record sleeve for protection. This is how I always store my records.
The Cover with Booklet
This is the original 1st UK issue Gate fold cover. Textured outside. There is no nasty creases on the cover worth to mention. Any indents/marks/rubbing you have to look for to notice in my opinion. The inside is nice and clean. All text is readable and no nasty handwriting or names written. The original booklet is still complete and in lovely condition apart from the two center pages which have come away from yhe fasteners. I would grade this cover at least better than excellent in my opinion.
