Hodges* B2 Diminuendo And Crescendo In BlueThis record album is one of 518 from an estate in my neighborhood. It is one man’s extensive 12” LP Jazz collection. (He passed away recently at the age of 94.) Some 10”, 7” lp’s and 45 singles are also included. The collection spans three + decades from the early 1950’s to the mid 1980’s. Most of the collection is in near mint condition (discogs.com). A great number of records appear to have never been played or very rarely played. I learned that the owner, an avid audiophile had copied most of his new lp’s to reel to reel tape and almost never played them afterwards. Most sleeves exhibit little or minimal wear and show typical age discoloration of the outer and inner sleeves. When I saw them, they were stored upright. Most records appear to be original releases. Some are 1st or 2nd pressings. Others are later reissues but none appear to be newer than the mid 1980’.
The collection is primarily Jazz, Swing, Blues, Pop, Big Band and includes such artists as Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong. Ella Fitzgerald, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Benny Goodman, Dinah Washington, Nancy Wilson, Jimmy Witherspoon, Joe Williams, Herb Alpert and many more.
Other artists are: Johnnie Catron and his Orchestra, Charlie Barnett, Earl Coleman, Tutti Camarata, Brook Benton, George Benson, Stan Getz, Billy Eckstein, Ray Eberly, Gene Krupa, Stan Kenton, The four Freshmen, Chuck Mangione, Al Hibbler, Lena Horne, Johnnie Hodges and many more.
