Description
Very nice copy of the original 1956 pressing of Ella’s Cole Porter Songbook double-LP on Verve MGV-4001-2. Perhaps the greatest of her great series of Song Book records, each focusing on a specific songwriter of the Golden Age. And this copy came from the estate of the great jazz bassist Ray Brown, who was married to Ella and still had a lot of Ella’s records and things. This was among a group of Ella’s records, many with letters to her from the record company or review clippings from the time of release. This copy is just beautiful. The discs have some light scuffs in places but they are essentially superficial and don’t affect the play at all. All four sides play beautifully with very few issues to mention. Occasional background crackle between songs, maybe, but barely even much of that. Only once or twice, barely. Really just a few superficial scuffs here and there but really it is a beautiful playing copy. The cover has barely any wear at all and is just gorgeous. Shiny and crisp. Only the tiniest signs of gentle use. Really a lovely copy, and one that was listened to by Ray Brown and Ella herself!
