ELIZETE CARDOSO: CANÇÃO DO AMOR DEMAIS (1958, Reissue 1967), FESTA IG 49.002, BRAZIL, 33 1/3, LP
This legendary album is inasmuch historic as it marks the birth of the Bossa Nova! "Canção do Amor Demais", released in 1958, consists entirely of compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes, and it contains "Chega de Saudade" and "Outra Vez", the first ever Bossa Nova recordings. Jobim plays piano throughout, and does some background singing on "Chega de Saudade". But - more important - João Gilberto plays guitar on those two tracks and this was the first time João Gilberto's guitar beat, from then on the official Bossa beat, was heard. Gilberto also does background singing on "Chega de Saudade".
Only two thousand copies of "Canção do Amor Demais" were initially pressed, and the album stayed rather unnoticed until one year later. In 1959 Gilberto recorded "Chega de Saudade" himself - the rest is history ...
Rare reissue of this album from 1967. Original Brazil LP. Original liner notes from 1958 by Vinicius de Moraes. Jacket open on top and bottom, as usual in pressings from this country of this era. The cover has only few traces on front and back. There is a sticker and a signature on the back cover. One small tear on the left edge of the back cover (see pictures) = VG

The condition of the record would be excellent, if not in 5 of the 13 tracks we'd have very light fizz or cracking = VG+

Grading scale : M-, E, VG, G. +/- for differentiation.
Unless otherwise noted, my records are play-graded. I play through all records on a Technics SL-QD33 with a Technics P30 stylus. Grading and comments on sound are purely my opinion and therefore subjective. The same record/LP may sound different on another system or setup. Please contact me with any questions. All of my records are carefully packed in sturdy cardboard mailers. I will add two cardboard supports, and the record will be out of sleeve to prevent seam splits.
