Description

Up for auction is a Scarce, First American Edition and a First British Edition of, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe plus a Rare, Signed Limited Edition 7-inch 45rpm by Ken Kesey and Ken Babbs with The Merry Band of Pranksters of one of the 1966 acid tests.

First, is a First American Edition of, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.  NY:  Farrar, Straus Giroux, 1968.  413 pages.  Described as essential reading for depicting the roots of the hippie movement, the book chronicles the adventures of Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters as they embark on a journey with the “Further” Bus, perform acid tests, and discusses the friendships and run-ins with the Hell’s Angels, The Grateful Dead, Ken Babbs, Neal Cassady, biker Terry the Tramp, Allen Ginsberg, Mountain Girl, their attempt to meet Timothy Leary, plus much more.  Very good plus condition with spotting to the top page edges and some spotting to the lower page edges of the text block.  Includes original dustjacket designed by Milton Glaser with the price of $5.95 inside the front flap.

Second, is a First British Edition of, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.  London:  Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1969.  416 pages.  Bound in red woven cloth with gilt lettering to spine; in original dust jacket.  Book is in excellent condition; jacket has some tearing and edgewear.  Overall, a nice copy of an important 60s counter-culture book.

Third, is a Signed, Limited Edition 7-inch 45rpm of, “Hogs Are Coming” with “Peggy the Pistol”.  Reportedly only several hundred of these records were pressed in the mid-1990s – this is #61 and signed by one the original Pranksters, Ken Babbs.  “Peggy the Pistol” was recorded at the Sound City Acid Test, in San Francisco in January of 1966; “Hogs are Coming” was also recorded in 1966.  Record is in excellent minus condition; illustrated color sleeve designed by Babbs is in very good plus condition.
