Description

Edison Diamond Disc Record 51878, played by Red and Miff’s Stompers (Red Nichols, trumpet; Miff Mole, trombone; Jimmy Dorsey, clarinet and alto sax; Alfie Evans, alto sax; Arthur Schutt, piano; Joe Tarto, tuba; Vic Berton, drums), recorded acoustically in New York on 10 November 1926.

Except for some obvious flaws, this record plays much better than it looks (V- visual; V+ play); scuffing and pencil marks to labels are visible in scans. An attempt was made to play HURRICANE with a steel needle; in the scan showing the record surface the worst damage is to the 6th groove in from the outer rim which affects the first 3 bars of music; the other groove scoring is hardly noticeable in light of the overall wear.
