Description:
We are pleased to offer this wonderful Edison cylinder record player (circa 1877) for auction.  This Edison Gem Phonograph has the following serial number: 261563.  A record is installed, however it is broken.  The player appears to be in very good condition, though we do not know if it works.  It has a wooden screw on cover with a wooden handle.  Bother the wooden cover and player are marked Edison.  Without the cover, the player measures 6.5" tall, 5.75" deep, and 7.5" long.  The Edison wooden box is also in very good condition.  The gild decoration on the player shows slight wear.  Three nettles for the Victrolia are included.     This fabulous "speaking machine," as Thomas Edison called record players, is a wonderful decorative item and would make a fantastic addition to anyone's home.     Thank you for bidding with us today!      

The Hurt Family resided in Newport News, Virginia, for many years and were avid, eclectic collectors of fine antiques and collectibles. While living and working in New York City, the daughter also contributed to the collection. Mr. Hurt passed away several years ago. Now his wife and daughter are downsizing and offering many of their fine possessions for your bidding pleasure.
