Description

[Due to a computer breakdown, and having to work from the L.A. Public Library, I was able only to post re-runs for the past six weeks! From now on, there will be exclusively NEW listings, which I hope will deeply intrigue you.]

HERE IS one of the earliest records I've yet offered:  A circa 1901 etched-label Zon - O - Phone, of "GOOD BYE DOLLY GRAY" by recording pioneer and Berliner artist, blustery Irish-American baritone GEORGE J. GASKIN.  He is distinctly of the no-vibrato, Diesel-Air-Horn school of singing - crude AND effective! I have records by him as far back as 1895, and even those may not be his first.  He may be accompanied by FRED HAGER on piano.

I like the peculiar type face and quaint 19th century orthography, so firmly and definitively stamped into the very shellac.

This original 1901 etched-label Zon-O-Phone 9819 is in surprisingly intact V+ condition! That's pretty amazing for a nearly one-hundred-twenty year old piece of shellac!

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
