If I’d died yesterday (which,  the last time I'd checked, , I had not), I would have thought that the last recordings ever made in mono - aside from some esoteric issues - were 1973 promo issues of Dr. John's "Gumbo" or Neil Young's "Time Fades away" or Led Zeppelin's "Houses of the Holy" (which no one seems to have ever seen). But - lo! - it is 1978 and Asylum/Elektra was still printing their 12-inchers in mono!!! Here's the proof. This incredibly bizarre item has Eagles Christmas carols on both sides - side one in stereo, side 2 in glorious, punchy mono. Hearing Eagles do the carols in mono is like watching the episode from"Twilight Zone" or being stuck in a time warp, but the sound is nice, very raw and punchy.  A stocking-stuffer, indeed!

The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were often distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as four months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title; a PROTOTYPE and the earliest known official pressing of the record. In this case, though, this is a rather moot point,  since this rare promo-only version of this record was never commercially released to begin with.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          White Promo-only MONO/STEREO version of this title is much rarer that a regular, commercially released (45 SINGLE)  version of this title. We estimate that stock copies of this album outnumber promo copies by a ratio of at least 100:1.

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

COVER : This PROMO-ONLY pressing comes without any custom jacket, and will be shipped in a plain, generic, white cardboard cover; not separately graded, but in great condition overall.
