Description

DUKE PEARSON       Sweet Honey Bee         Blue Note BST 84252
Up for auction is an original 1967 Blue Note Stereo NY pressing of Duke Pearson's splendid "Sweet Honey Bee". Although compositionally not as strong as "Wahoo", this lp features some songs that deserved to become standards (particularly "Big Bertha" and "After The Rain"). Seven Duke Pearson originals performed wonderfully by an all-star sextet (featuring Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson and James Spaulding). A classic late 60s jazz lp.

DEAD WAX INFO:  Side 1 has BNST 84252 A etched, and VAN GELDER stamped into the dead wax. Side 2 has

  • BNST 84252 B-1 etched and VAN GELDER stamped into the dead wax. OG NY stereo first press, circa 1967.

  • VINYL VISUAL: VG+ and much better (oh so close to NM) with very minor marking. You would be VERY hard pressed to find a better looking copy. Some minor scuffing on label, only visible when tilted in bright light.

VINYL PLAY GRADE:  VG+ and much better with AS NEW fidelity. Really close to NM. Because of the surge of interest and questions concerning this item, I am doing a more detailed play grade. 95% of the lp plays at NM. There is some slight static on run-in and between tracks and at the very quiet beginning of "After The Rain". There are also 4 VERY light ticks within the first 20 seconds of "Big Bertha". I will stand by the rating, and the static may abate with a good cleaning. Tough to beat this keeper for sure.
COVER VISUAL: VG+ with corner bumping (see pictures) and some general minor wear. The spine reads fine, and there is some minor wear on top/bottom seams. Overall a really nice example, especially in light of the age of the cover (55 years).
Comes with original Blue Note branded 27 Years paper inner (EX). The vinyl is housed in an Audiophile style plastic inner.   DETAILS ON SELLER AND SHIPPING
HELLO ALL. My name is Jamie, and I have been collecting records steadily for over 45 years.  After a bit of a respite from selling on Ebay, I am back and will be selling a ton of stuff over the next few years. My tastes run all over the map, so there will be something for everyone. All opened items will be visually AND aurally graded. All Dead Wax info will be listed. Play grade is done on a Thorens TD 165 through Yamaha amplification and JBL reference headphones (treble set high so there will be no surprises when you get the item)
ALL ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED WITH PROPER MAILERS AND EXTRA PADDING, PARTICULARLY AT THE CORNERS. I HAVE MADE FAR TOO MANY PURCHASES ON EBAY WHERE THE ITEM HAS ARRIVED WITH DINGED CORNERS DUE TO INADEQUATE PACKAGING MATERIAL. BY USING FOLDED BUBBLE WRAP IN ALL FOUR CORNERS, YOU CAN BE ASSURED OF AN ITEM WITHOUT DINGED CORNERS (OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND FOR THAT MATTER).             Non-tracked shipping throughout the U.S.A will be $13 CANADIAN per item, as will tracked shipping within Canada. Tracked shipping to the U.S.A. will be $16 CANADIAN for items under 500g, and slightly more for items over 500g. Most single sleeve items can be shipped as under 500g. Gatefolds and multi-sets will be over 500g.
Being a reasonable person, I will be absorbing ALL of the shipping material cost, and some of the actual postage cost.
If you have issue with an item, PLEASE work with me to achieve an outcome that will be to your satisfaction. I do offer full refunds (excluding cost to get it back to me), on any item that is not satisfactory.       SINCE SHIPPING OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA IS RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE (Thank You Canada Post), I will rarely list gatefolds or multi-items for sale overseas. IF ANYONE OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA IS CRAZY INTERESTED IN ANY ITEM, I WILL QUOTE SHIPPING ON REQUEST. Since a lot of the stuff that I will be selling is of higher end quality, rarely will things be offered overseas. Sorry folks. Again, I can consider requests on an item-by-item basis. THANKS FOR READING, everyone.       Occasionally I will be selling rare and collectible CDs. Shipping obviously will be much less, around $5 CANADIAN within North America.
