DESCRIPTION:

Here is the mega-rare / highly sought-after Australian 1st and only pressing of this debut and landmark album by Irish psychedelic folk-rock outfit 'Dr. Strangely Strange'.
For whatever unknown reason it was released on the collectable Calendar label in Australia, as opposed to the Island label overseas.

Ireland's answer to the Incredible String Band, Dr. Strangely Strange engaged in the same type of psychedelic acoustic music with folksy arrangements. With traditional instruments like penny whistle, fiddle, harmonium, and mandolin, Dr. Strangely Strange was more solidly rooted in melody and structure than the group's flaky Scottish counterparts. Produced by British modern folk guru Joe Boyd, Kip of the Serenes is built around simple and repetitious melodies occasionally interrupted by stream-of-consciousness musical and lyrical diversions. This simplistic approach would be abandoned with their 1970 follow-up, Heavy Petting, which saw their first partnership with electric guitarist Gary Moore.

Released in 1969 on the Calendar ( Australia) label ( Cat. No.# SR-669780 ) as per photo below.

CONDITION:

VINYL :
Simply a glorious copy !! This album never turns up ( at least on original vinyl ) and to come across one that still has all it's original luster, barely played, virtually unmarked and on lovely 140 gram vinyl is quite a score. Rated EX, perhaps slightly better, and is certain to please.

JACKET: The sleeve is in great condition. It shows a touch of ring wear on the front however it is very minor as per photo. The rear cover is much the same and has some very light soiling which is not unexpected on the white background. There is also a small nick at one point at the entrance on the back cover but again no big deal and overall this is a most presentable sleeve and probably as good as you are ever likely to see. The back sleeve also gives notes on the band and it's members.
