Cover grade:  VG+ with a cut out slice in lower right bottom edge.
Disc grade:  NM never played.

Signed at an in store at Peaches Records in Atlanta in 1978 on his Shiny Beast tour.

LP is in a heavy plastic sleeve with the blue Peaches Records logo on the front.

Here is the story.  I will provide a copy of the story with the LP.

Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band were on tour in 1978 supporting the release of Shiny Beast / Bat Chain Puller.  They played The Great Southeast Music Hall in Atlanta Nov. 28, 1978.

He stopped by Peaches Records on Peachtree Street for a personal appearance.  I could not attend because I was working.  My brother, Mike, went and met Don Van Vliet.  It was a low profile afternoon in store.  There were a few fans there who brought their LP’s to be signed by the Captain.  My brother did not bring anything to be signed but walked over to the cut out bin of the store and found “Safe As Milk” in the bin for sale for $1.00.  He stood in line and when it came his turn he handed it to Don.  When Don took a look at it he saw the price and immediately called his manager over and asked what the hell was going on that this LP was selling for $1.00.  The manager told him that that was the way things worked and Don shrugged his shoulders and pulled the shrink wrap off the LP and asked “What’s your name” and my brother answered and he signed it “ Mike Van Vliet 78”

My brother bought a heavy plastic sleeve to cover it, which has the Peaches logo on it.  He later presented it to me.  The LP has never been pulled out of the protective plastic since 1978.  If anyone cares, the disc is in mint condition, never played. 

Don Van Vliet insisted on sending someone out to acquire grease pencils to do the signings so I imagine the autograph is fragile.  I have never removed the plastic cover because I did not want to damage the autograph.

This is a 33 1/3 rpm Long Playing Record.
I use conservative “Goldmine” grading standards.  I only rate discs NM that I know have not been played by me or anyone else.  I have to rate "promos"  that have covers that have cut corners, saw cuts or gold stamps as VG+ even though the covers are NM or sealed.  I note any additional condition problems in my descriptions.

I ship using standard cardboard LP mailers and wrap the disc in foam sheets or double box shipment.
I try to ship within 3 business days after payment is received which should be no later than 7 days after winning the auction.
If you are not satisfied with the item, let me know within 7 days after receiving it.  You pay to ship it back and I refund your purchase price.
