This is a very cool record, and from the 1a/1a marking in deadwax I think this might be first issue. I aquired a large collection and the owner of this and many other albums I have for sale have pencil marking where the owner was learning to play the songs.  He would mark songs with a dash he was going to learn, and would also somtimes put marks of "key" or "tempo". (see photo)

NOW AS FAR AS PRESSING, I'm unclear after much reading about the numbers in dead wax and how reliable they are for dating. Outside of this though, this must be an early pressing. I have another LP, "Doc Watson and Son", that is from one year earlier, 1965. This has 1C/1C in the dead wax at the end of the matrix number. So MAYBE this owner purchase these at similar time and the 65 was a little later press? And this 66 record with the 1A's is first press? Info is not easy to come by, and opinions are many.

CONDITION: Considering age, I would consider the VINYL close to NM but have it listed at EX, thinking it is somewhere from EX or better. Cover is listed as EX but note the pencil markings of previous owner, & coffee stain?, and decide for yourself if that marks it down a notch. The stain does not look like this got wet, but maybe a little coffee over the edge of a cup one day when working on Doc Watson tunes, as the other Doc Watson record I have, "doc and son" has similar stain in similar spot.

This record has special guest Merle Watson as 2nd guitarist on some songs. Also John Pilla is 2nd guitarist on some of the songs. They are actually 1st guitar on at least one, with DOC being listed as 2nd guitar. When the string Bass is heard, that is Russ Savakus. See photos of song listing for titles. Sweet Georgia Brown and Tennessee Stud are amongst the songs listed that I recognized by title.
