Description
This is the holy grail for serious Ross collectors (and truthfully, I hate to part with it, so please give this a good home!) :) This is an UNRELEASED in-house rundown reference recording of Diana's early jazz recording sessions for "Lady Sings The Blues". Dated 11-12-71, this thick, strong vinyl LP contains 10 UNRELEASED performances, including the long-rumored recording of "Crazy He Calls Me". Yes, it really exists, and it is lovely.
All tracks are in Mono, and Diana is accompanied by piano and some light percussion. These are outtakes and she is close-miked, so there are occasional "hot" moments. You can hear who I presume to be Gil Askey counting down some of the songs, and there is light studio banter with the musicians. On "Good Morning Heartache", you will hear these veteran jazz musicians actually applaud the young chanteuse as she takes on these Billie Holiday standards.
Vinyl is NM on most tracks, though some have scuffs, but there are no skips, just some "vinyl crackly warmth". This is an extremely high quality acetate, very hard and thick vinyl, not commercial vinyl.
This LP is a delight for any fan of Diana Ross, Billie Holiday, or simply rare Motown. An alternate media backup is available to the winning bidder.
