Notes

Neutral white sleeve and white labels - Initially simply dubbed as an untitled "Special Limited Edition LP" on flyers which later became the title "The White Album". According to sources (referenced below), after the first press of 1000 copies another 1000 were pressed, this time with a slight variation of numbers and an 'EG' plating credit in the matrix. This is supported by the first press of 1000 and the additional 1000 having the same large label ring on the record, but with different matrix information.

The subsequent "Happy Face Records" repress features a printed label, but with a small ring on the record, with similar matrix information.

Due to high demand, another pressing was ordered, this time under the band's own "Happy Face Records" label, with the title "Lightning to the Nations" and track listing on the labels, which became the final official title for this album. According to sources (referenced below), the Happy Face Records version was limited to 1000 copies (not the 2000 copies as previously stated).

The initial run of the 1000 "White Albums" were signed by band members (ca. 250 copies for each band member), however some copies happen to be dedicated and/or signed by the whole band. Also some copies feature a handwritten track list info on the sleeve and/or labels.

A professional LP release with remastered sound and full colour sleeve followed by the German label Woolfe Records in 1981. Unfortunately the original master tape got lost after the remastering process, which is why all later pressings were taken from a vinyl source.

Barcode and Other Identifiers

·     Matrix / Runout: MMDHLP

·     Other: BILBO TA1PE ; 1015 a and b

·     Other (On B side): 1015 B1 EG BILBO TA1PE

·     Other (On A side): 1015 A1 EG BILBO

Sleeve in generally very good, no splits or significant creases,  very slight darkening around the periphery and beginning of disc indentation through age and storage.

Colin Kimberley’s signature is large and clear in blue biro on the front.

Previous owner? Has added Diamond Head in red biro at top of sleeve, adjacent to this is a  small bit of surface paper loss where former (price?) label has been removed.

very minor pinching in a couple of places around the edges, will try to show in pics.

When originally bought it was played at most 3 or 4 times, then filed away in their polythene sleeves on a shelf…only to now surface.

Visual inspection reveals discs are in generally pretty good condition for their age, odd spidery spindle drag lines on the white labels, but no other wear. Number of hair line surface marks, odd finger smudges particularly on B side.

Stampings on the run out grooves are as follows :

On A side: BILBO MMDHLP 1015 A1 EG

On B side: BILBO TA1PE MMDHLP 1015 B1 EG

Also includes original typed track listing and production credits sheet of lined paper  (23cm x 18cm)

Selling on behalf of my Dad (who supplied all the info) from his personal collection, from the olden days when he collected vinyl.

Important perspective info, please read….thanks ?.

A few words about the vinyl grading.

I try to be as honest as possible, but all grades are based upon an experienced but ultimately subjective visual inspection, trying to identify and highlight obvious issues.

Back in the day whilst my Dad purchased much of the vinyl new, as he expanded his collection , (eventually running into a few thousand discs) hence many only played once, inevitably he was drawn to second hand (pre-loved) copies of certain discs, including the rarer original 1970’s issue boots.

As you will appreciate, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this or looking at the listing, the nature of many of these live/unofficial recordings meant that original production standards were not necessarily a top priority, with occasional mastering/pressing faults occurring.

Similarly with any second hand vinyl which in some cases is almost 50 years old they will potentially exhibit aural signs of having been played, sometimes a  fair bit..these are not mint, new unplayed discs (unless stated).

The attraction for my Dad was either obtaining the different variations of an issue or otherwise unavailable rare recordings…its called collecting!

When playing vinyl my Dad had a Technics SL1800 turntable with Ortfon cartridge, so no thrashing and grinding on an old  fidelity UA4! (early 70’s starter bedroom lo-fi, crank it up ?).

I aim to use recycled packaging when possible, but rest assure that your vinyl will be well packed and protected against the trials of postal travel!

Any questions or if you need more photos please ask.

If you have any  issues please contact me before leaving feedback as my intention is to give you the e-bay buying experience that I myself would want, i.e. customer satisfaction all round.
