Description
Blue Note 4133 High Fidelity
Recording made by Rudy Van Gelder on 8/29/1962 with Dexter Gordon-tenor sax; Sonny Clark-piano; Butch Warren-bass; Billy Higgins-drums.
This LP has the VAN GELDER stamp in the runout area, and an imprint of what looks like an ear.
This Blue Note LP was recorded when Dexter returned to New York from LA, where he had spent several years--just before he went to Europe. The songs are: "Soy Califa" (showing that the bopster could jam out on a modal latin tune);"Don't Explain"; "You Stepped Out of a Dream"; "The Backbone"; "Until the Real Thing Comes Along"; and "McSplivens". This LP has an excellent rhythm section (Blue Note always did at that time) backing the swinging, rich sounding tenor saxophone of Mr. Gordon.
This album is in excellent condition. It plays through cleanly with very slight surface noise. The cover is also in very good condition--this one has a shiny overlay on the front cover, very light scuffing. There's a price tag stuck to the back from when it was new (I'm basing my starting price on it). There is some shelf wear on the bottom corners where a little bit of the paper cover stock has worn away--very slight (examine the photo). All edges are intact, both on the cover and also the original inner sleeve, which has "1939-1964: 25 Years of Blue Note" with thumbnail pictures of 72 Blue Note albums (so many great ones!). This LP has been kept indoors and has no mildew odor.
