DERAM SML1047:  MIKE WESTBROOK CONCERT BAND  'Marching Song Vol.1'

UK avant garde jazz rarity from 1969, this was one of the albums that established Westbrook's high reputation. The band personnel reads like a who's who of musicians soon to become household names among jazz fans in the UK and throughout the world. Among those heard here with Westbrook (p) are: Kenny Wheeler/Henry Lowther (tp); Malcolm Griffiths/ Mike Gibbs/Paul Rutherford (tb); John Surman/ Mike Osborne/Alan Skidmore (reeds); Harry Miller (b) and Alan Jackson (d). This is an UK 1st Decca/Deram stereo pressing with orange/white label. The cover suggests that there was a mono pressing of this and volume 2 (also listed); but was there?

CONDITION/DESCRIPTION: The disc is EtoE+/E+ (VG+toVG++/VG++) with a few very light scratches only, visible under a bright 'grading' light. Side one has a few slightly heavier looking scuffs/scratches. These have little affect on the playing. The cover is E (VG+), with minor surface scratching/creasing/shadowing and a small amount of surface dirt. There is some more creasing and minor damage around the corners, particularly the left hand side corners of the front.
