Everybody collecting this album probably knows more about it than I do. I am guessing no more than 2 owners. I can tell you that this is a record purchased in my 3rd yr of college- yes, I AM old! I remember buying it, used, back in Minnesota at "The Wax Museum"because I was very proud of myself for knowing that Dennis Wilson was a Beach Boy! "Oh, those midwesterners! They were so hopelessly behind everyone else as far as anything/everything "cool" went." So, I am guessing no more than 2 owners. Of more interest, perhaps is the fact that embossed in gold on the back of the album is the notice "FOR PROMOTION ONLY Ownership Reserved by CBS Sale is Unlawful"....gosh, do I dare sell it? Do you dare buy it? Kidding. 1977 was right in the zone where people were buying an album, playing it once to record it on a cassette, then selling it to a Used Record store.....oooh, the bargains I got at that place!
I searched for several hours for a record of the gold-embossed "Promo only" notice added to the record by CBS Records. Could this be different than the DJ copies I have seen for sale with added playlists, etc ? Perhaps give this kind to music critics and other important people to listen to, either prior to release or at the same time.
The last 5 photos are of the "defects" on the cover predominantly. There is one smudge on Side 1 thru 1st 2 songs, but it was near impossible to see and is completely non-palpable.
Unfortunately I cannot listen to it because I lost my hearing several years ago. I have a lot of records left, esp what I call "cult collectibles" from 1930 to 1990. Email to see if particular item of interest might be available. I am listing them one at a time as well as selling them live in bulk....still have well over 1000 left
