This is one of the greatest recordings of Flamenco ever made!

Although Carmen (1913-1963) was of course primarily a dancer — THE female dancer of the century — she was also an excellent singer with a marvelous Gypsy voice. Although they performed together for decades, she made only two albums with the amazing Sabicas on guitar (the other being "Queen of the Gypsies"); but they show what he was capable of as an accompanist: the rhythm the two of them generate (e.g. on the Bulerías or the Jaleo Canastero) is nothing short of phenomenal.

Tracks 3, 5, 6*, 8 & 9 are solos by Sabicas, foreshadowing the career which would for many years make him the World's greatest flamenco virtuoso.

Carmen is the singer on most of the other tracks — fortunately, as she's considerably better than the rather mediocre Domingo Alvarado, who never the less performs adequately on the final one.

I know of no album that's conveys the tripartite essence of Flamenco better than this. A landmark recording.
