Description
Fellow audiophiles up for your consideration is an extremely rare and valuable factory sealed pressing of David Gilmour's sophomore solo album "About Face" that was released in 1984 on Columbia Records (catalog # FC 39296) for U. S. sales. The story goes that David wanted to record an album with musicians he considered to be the best at their instruments so consequently he ended up with an all star cast of band-mates including Toto's drummer Jeff Pocoro, Jon Lord from Deep Purple on synthesizer, Steve Winwood on the Hammond organ, Ray Cooper on percussion, String arrangements from Michael Kamen with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, plus backing vocals from his longtime friend and mentor Roy Harper. David wrote the entire album with the exception of two songs that Pete Townshend of The Who provided the lyrics. At this stage in his career their was obviously quite a lot of tension with fellow Pink Floyd member Roger Waters which the song "You know I'm Right" is rumored to be about. My personal favorite from this effort is the song "Murder" which is an emotional out cry directed at the senseless killing of musical peer John Lennon, an acoustic arrangment lasting almost five minutes with classic Gilmour leads and a haunting Hammond organ from Steve Winwood. From beginning to end this is an excellent effort by one of the finest lead guitarists and composers of the rock and roll genre. The album is part of my personal collection and has always been stored in a mostly dust free smoke free and climate controlled environment (not a warehouse). Gently handled but never played, it is in pristine condition and my very last sealed copy. I am offering up some of my duplicate titles to help finance my habit. Thanks for looking.
