Description

A 1st pressing of 'Space Oddity' on the UK RCA label from 1972. Matrix 1E/1E. Please note this LP was recorded in 1969 and originally released on the Philips label. This is the 1st pressing on RCA when they signed Bowie and reissued his earlier records. Publishing credits are 'Titanic'. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original cover - please note the cover does not carry the 'MainMan' logo and this is the very very 1st issue. Also included is the original lyric sheet inner sleeve and the original poster too. So, 100% original and 100% complete. And believe me when I say it's a total stunner...
Vinyl (NM) In absolutely terrific condition and has clearly only seen light use. Under close inspection there are absolutely no marks and zero signs of use at all. Are we being presumptuous grading (NM)? Well, on this copy no we're not. We don't hand out an NM lightly it needs to sound and look like you took it straight out of the original packet [and this is just that copy - very very unusual]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a NEARMINT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with prefect clarity. And just to reiterate - when we say "silent" we mean perfectly silent all the way through. We could only detect one crackle throughout the entire record [literally - 1]. This is one of Bowie's more pared down albums and really needs a well preserved copy to do it justice. Many copies are going to have been played a fair amount and deterioration will be noticeable, to some degree, even on a top-copy. But this is really a copy beyond anything I've ever seen before. And judging by the complete lack of any evidence of use [no spindle trace] , and the fact it sounds perfect, I would hazard a guess that it has only ever been played a very small number of times. FINAL UPGRADE - par excellence.
Cover (Ex) One thing that we must be absolutely clear on is that we believe that roughly 2mm has been guillotined from the opening edge. They've made a good job of it - but the text on the rear is just a touch too close to the edge. if it were not for that we would be grading higher because this is a perfectly preserved cover. These covers are often exhibiting a fair bit of wear, but this copy looks almost new. Almost no surface wear at all and those colours are still all bold and vivid. No creasing or writing anywhere. The spine is 100% intact and overall the cover retains perfect rigidity.
Inner (Ex+) Truly stunning condition from what is a fragile article. Absolutely no ageing at all. No splits or marks.
Poster (Ex+) In perfect condition - like new. It most certainly has never seen a wall.
