Description

An original 1st press of Oddity on the RCA label in the UK. Matrix 1E/1E - very 1st cut. Please note this release [or re-release] coincides with Bowie's switch to RCA and relaunch with a reissue of the original Oddity material on Philips from 1969. This 1st press on RCA comes just marginally before Bowie hits the big time with STARDUST in the summer of 1972. There are a couple of important indicators that date this copy to very 1st release on RCA in Q1 1972. Firstly, the publishing credits on the label are still 'TITANIC' - this gets changed to Mainman immediately as he hits it big only a couple of months later. And then early covers make no reference to Mainman on the rear and exhibit the sticker advertising the poster in the interior. And that poster is included in this listing along with the lyric inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In fantastic condition having seen only very light use. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of very light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. Early pressings on RCA of Bowie really are a 'tour de force' for audio - you just can't imagine going any better. Beautiful transparency digging deep into the mix. Interference is, thankfully, practically non-existent. All we could detect was a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments. It really is very difficult not being completely knocked out by this rendition.
Cover (Ex) Often found in pretty ropy condition this copy is way way above what usually surfaces. Very nice clean front without surface wear or ageing - ditto the rear.. There's only a couple of light creases front and back. Edge wear is extremely light and the openings are still sharp. The spine is 100% intact - very unusual. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and lies totally flat. A fantastic example by any standard.
Inner (Ex) No markings or splits. Perhaps lightest of ageing in one or two spots.
Poster (Ex) Perfect condition and doesn't look to have ever seen a wall!
