Description
This is an original copy of David Bowie's 1971 classic album Hunky Dory. RCA Victor, UK pressing with original orange labels. SF8244 (LSP 4623).
Please note that this is not the very first pressing laminated sleeve with no Gem logo on the back copy dating from December 1971. Those sell for hundreds of pounds as original album sales were poor and so there are not many around. This is the next best thing, the very first all matt sleeve print with no Mainman logo on the rear which were printed before Mainman was established in mid 1972.
The vinyl is visually excellent. It has been played right through and carefully checked. Plays well with absolutely no jumps or skips. Has been cleaned. Between some of the tracks and a few of the quieter moments, there is the usual warm background vinyl crackle as with almost all vinyl of this age. Vinyl audio grading is therefore very good.
The sleeve is the first matt print, Robert Stace cover with no Mainman logo on the back of the sleeve. The sleeve is in very good plus to excellent condition with barely any storage / edge wear. I’ve tried to show this by taking photos of the spine and edges. Most copies of the original 1971/1972 Hunky Dory I’ve seen have heavy edge wear. There isn't the common white ring wear on the black frame on the sleeve front which is common on the originals of this album. Visible in the photos, there is a little light handling creasing and at the front opening edge there is a small creased area but, overall, with little ring, edge or spine wear, one of the best Hunky Dory sleeves I have seen.
Comes with original lyric insert which is also in excellent condition and the original RCA inner sleeve which is in very good condition.
