Originating from 1972 this is the earliest Bowie promo ever pressed in Spain....prior to this the record companies used to mark the regular singles with a promo stamp.....and the story does not stop there.....

Spanish white label promotional records, especially LPs, were often pressed by RCA some time, often years, after the actual official release and used as a retrospective promotional record for Bowie's forthcoming releases.

For example the Spanish Pin Ups white label LP came around in about 1974 and was used by RCA to promote Diamond Dogs/Young Americans period.

You can interpret the actual year of pressing of a Spanish record by looking at the last digits of the "Deposito Legal" which is an official index number assigned by the government at the time of an items publication in Spain (as well as records this includes magazines and books etc).

Several things make this RCA white label radio promo single unusual.

Firstly it was actually pressed by COFASA for RCA in 1972 (Deposito Legal/Index M.31864-1972) ahead of the release of the Bowie single AND LP Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars in Spain. If Iam not mistaken this makes this Starman disc literally Bowie's earliest RCA white label promo record in Spain ever.

Official RCA index number 3-10798 pressed 3G2ZW-0239 and with matrix number 850 2ZW 0239*1 and 0240*1 on b side.

Credited on label as a 02:39 version of Starman.

If you read on-line databases this song is only ever mentioned on vinyl at 04:05 or 04:16 minutes or 03:58 cuts.

Having never been played and sitting in a library unused since 1972 who can say???

I have never played the record so cannot confirm the edit of the track but you can see the label credits for yourself in the scans.

Mint condition original issue RCA Spain white label radio promo vinyl single housed in the original authentic 1972 RCA picture sleeve it was first distributed to radio stations in around Spain 37 years ago. 

This is without doubt one of the BEST condition picture sleeves you will EVER find and includes other subtle differences [its all in the detail as my father said] like the 1st issue 1972 credits on the bottom on the front cover which are printed in BLACK as opposed to DARK RED on the later 1st public general issue single.
