ABC-Paramount issued very few EPs. Their catalog numbers (EP-1 through roughly EP-15) were mostly 1957-1959 test-market releases.
By 1960, ABC had abandoned the format.
That means each title — including EP-11 — had a limited pressing and almost no reissues. So, 2 years after ABC tried the EP, it canceled it. It did so due to cost (it had to outsource to Columbia Bridgeport) and consumer demand. In its 15 EP span — compared to RCAs thousands, Capital’s hundreds, and Columbia’s full decade of EP releases — ABC’s dozen or so, were a trifle. They released Sam Cooke, The Impressions, and Jimmy McCracklin all on EP. Preferences aside, there are fewer that define the 1950s sock-hop, birth of Rock’n’Roll generation than Danny & The Juniors “At The Hop.”
Almost every copy that turns up is VG at best — teen-owned, jukebox-handled, or ring-worn. High-grade examples have either deteriorated or been played to death. Finding one that looks like it just left the store in 1958 is akin to finding an unopened Elvis Sun 45. It just does not happen.
This is a NM copy of Danny and The Juniors in the original Cellophane bag. In the 1950s, record companies did not yet use heat-shrink plastic wrap on most releases – that industry practice became standard only in the mid-1960s instead many used poly or cello bags. Furthermore, this copy contain no tears, no wear, no anything of note but a tiny check, written in pen, that I have documented. Color is vibrant and bag is intact. I proselytize to you: you are buying an *archival* copy of Danny & The Juniors “At The Hop.”
But What About The Three Distinctive Black Marks:
The three (sometimes four) black, blue, or red rectangular marks on the back sleeve are printing artifacts that appear on every authentic EP-11. They’re part of the original manufacturing process — not damage. (Collectors will recognize this immediately.). So look it up. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Vinyl:
The vinyl appears unplayed. I will not spin it — someone else can enjoy that privilege. It has been handled only to photograph and is now safely stored in a new archival paper sleeve.
