Selling my prog/psych/rock collection! Here’s a rarity by DULCIMER, and it’s an original UK issue on the Nepentha label. It’s not a US or foreign or reissue on Mercury or Global. It's the UK original and first pressing.....and this acid/folk one rarely turns up for auction…especially in this condition!
Not only does this have one of the most beautiful designed covers, the music is full of magical, medieval and mystic lyrics, all penned by the group. Their sound was a strangely haunting mix of acoustic, very traditional-sounding folk-inspired originals, which were often set as more ambitious (and dramatic) suite-like pieces. The melodies and playing are stunning, while their lyrics were steeped in antiquity and fantasy -- somewhere midway between Amazing Blondel and Renaissance. The actor Richard Todd (1919-2009) recites poetry on 'Sonnet To the Fall' and 'Caravan'.
Dulcimer were: Vocals, guitars, flute, mandolin etc - Dave Eaves and Pete Hodges and bassist Jem North.
The record is near mint. There are no marks or scratches. Plus, cleaned on my vinyl machine plays perfect. The Gatefold Sleeve is excellent. NO rips, creases or writing. One fault is a label scuff on the front. (see photo)…….so with copies changing hands for over £400 don’t miss this lost gem.
