Here are two original, laminated Australian HMVs from 1930 by DUKE ELLINGTON AND HIS COTTON CLUB ORCHESTRA:
EA-834 "RING DEM BELLS" and "THREE LITTLE WORDS" E
Both titles from the movie "Check and Double Check." On "Three Little Words," besides the usual Ellington personnel (COOTIE WILLIAMS (trumpet), JOHNNY HODGES (alto sax), BARNEY BIGARD (clarinet) et cetera, PAUL WHITEMAN'S RHYTHM BOYS (Bing Crosby, Al Rinker, Harry Barris) put in a special guest appearance. Future band leader CHARLIE BARNET is alleged to have whacked the chimes on "Ring Dem Bells."
EA-989 "MOOD INDIGO" and "WHEN A BLACK MAN'S BLUE" EE+
The classic, iconic 1930 Victor performance of "Mood Indigo," Duke's amazing experiment in sound. He deliberately voiced the three lead instruments with a high trombone (Tricky Sam Nanton), low clarinet (Barney Bigard) and trumpet in the middle (Arthur Whetsel) - in other words, upside down - to draw from the microphone a mysterious resonance, which somehow sounds like an ethereal fourth horn! Artistically successful, AND it became a huge commercial hit! What more could a humble composer want?
Both of these are beautiful, laminated (whisper-quiet) full-color "Nipper" Australian HMVs; original 1930 releases. They're equivalent to the respective American Victors, and of course, they are master-pressed.

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
