DR. HUMPHREY BATES & HIS POSSUM HUNTERS 1928 String band 78 Dill Pickle Rag (V++)

DR. HUMPHREY BATES & HIS POSSUM HUNTERS. Brunswick 243 (US) Dill Pickle Rag/Take Your Foot Out Of The Mud And Put It In The Sand.
These two legendary string-band sides were recorded in Atlanta in 1928. Seldom seen.

Please read my description of this scarce string-band gem carefully before you bid.
This 78 visually grades a still-shiny V++ with some stacking rubs and a few very light scratches. There are three needle drops, fairly close to each other, on the 'B' side, that pass without skipping on my light-armed Techncs 1200 turntable, causing some thumps and light ticks (I've played through this section at least four or five times, just to be sure). Spot-checked. Generally, the record plays nice and strong for the grade with slightly noisy starts to the first few grooves of both sides. Both lightning-bolt Brunswick labels are nice with a bit of light rubbing in spots.
This one is scarce in any condition. Should do you till that elusive E+ copy comes along. My shelf copy for many years, recently replaced.

With the ever-rising costs of shipping 78s, I’m happy to hold records for you buyers who want to fill up a box – on a ‘pay as you go’ basis, please.

Unless otherwise stated, 78s are carefully cleaned by hand before listing. Upon receiving, your only job will be to enjoy the music.
78s come in used but nice vintage green sleeves or, when possible, original paper sleeves.
I do my spot-checking and play testing on a Technics 1200 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge using a standard Stanton 2.7 stylus. The amp is a mid-70s Pro-Linear with the mono switch activated. The speakers are small professional recording studio monitors (Yamaha NS 10) that are known for being overly bright – great for spotting that mild surface noise!
I ship 78s as I like to receive them - using the four-sheet 10” cardboard sandwich, foam chips, 12" x 12" x 4 "(or 6") box method.
I use standard 78 grading (E+, E, E-, V+, V, V- etc). I’ll sometimes use double plus or minus signs to really hone in on the shape.

CANADIAN BUYERS – the shipping calculator will give you rates for surface shipping. Also, since I’m mailing from British Columbia, 12 % HST (on shipping only) will be added to the invoice of all Canadian orders.
ALL OTHER INTERNATIONAL BUYERS - shipping calculator rates are for airmail. International surface shipping can take a long time to reach you – up to two months – so is not recommended.
