Description
As I stated when I sold an original copy here a couple years ago, D. R. Hooker’s The Truth is one of the most sought-after American psychedelic private pressings, routinely showing up on many collectors’ all-time favorites lists. Features the great lead guitar (attention, fuzz fans) and voice of D.R. Hooker, backed up by his ace band. The songwriting is also particularly noteworthy. Here’s what Patrick Lundborg of Acid Archives says: “The Truth is one of the big private press classics, reissued enough times that most people should know it by now. Covers all the bases in an impressive manner, the songwriting, his awesome voice, the elaborate psych-rock soundscape, even the lyrics are excellent. The thematic range is truly mind-boggling, going from ambivalent drug songs into pastoral hymns and ending up in full-blown Jesus praise. A good LP to play for your non-collector friends, although it's not without detractors among mainstream psych heads, who probably can't handle the ego-mania and lounge moves that are part of what makes these 70s albums so great.”
Originally released 1972, this reissue came out in Sweden on Subliminal Sounds in 1999 and is long out of print. It comes with the fold-out lyric sheet. The cover is in VG+++ (bent corner) and the record is in M- condition. (Click on the “me” icon above for info on my grading system.)
