The 1977 release that marked both a breakthrough and a near-breakup for Southend-on-Sea's Dr. Feelgood returns here in sharp, remastered form. It's the last record to feature Wilko Johnson, whose jagged guitar lines and tense songwriting still anchor the likes of 'Paradise' and 'Time and the Devil'. The title track punches through with bar-band swagger and suspicious glare while covers like 'Lights Out' and 'Hey Mama, Keep Your Big Mouth Shut' are stripped to their bare essentials-brash, brisk and electrified. It's an artefact from a group teetering on the edge: no-frills, unvarnished pub rock staring down the future punk wave it helped inspire.
