DOORS - THE MATRIX TAPES - LIVE - SAN FRANCISCO 1967 !!!!!!!

San Francisco, 1967. The ides of March are about to come. And so are the Doors... in order to play the Matrix Club for two nights. This venue co-owned by Jefferson Airplane's Marty Balin was unique in its atmosphere and its very special echo chamber sound. The Doors came here in between the release of their first two singles. Break On Through b/w End of the Night had just been published and Light My Fire b/w The Crystal Ship was yet to come. And so was the Doors' international breakthrough. They were already pretty big on the scene and playing more and more gigs. Time for intimate song writing and development was running out more and more which Jim would later regret again and again. But here they were trying on a lot of material from their self titled debut and the follow-ups (the blues classic Crawling King Snake would only be released on the Doors' last album) as well as some rare material they would never release in studio versions, like "Get Out of My Life Woman," "Who Do You Love?," "Rock Me," "I'm a King Bee" (with Manzarek on vocals), "Gloria," a lengthy instrumental take on Gershwins "Summertime," and "Money." However, the Doors were polishing a lot of raw jewels here. Enjoy the special softness of these recordings and let the Doors take you to a magic place in the middle of the nowhere of your mind.
