DETAILS:  Rare 1959 LP on Flip, featuring Donald Woods, The Six Teens and Richard Berry!

"The title of this compilation was pretty rich, considering the Flip label only had one national chart hit (the Six Teens' "A Casual Look") during its existence. "A Casual Look" is the leadoff track, naturally, on this collection, which has a dozen cuts issued on Flip singles between 1955 and 1959. They span the gamut from tough to tame early doo wop/R&B/rock & roll, the Six Teens represented by six tracks in the innocent doo wop style of "A Casual Look," including their mild follow-up hit, "Arrow of Love." Richard Berry's three tracks are the highlights, including as they do the original version of "Louie Louie." Berry also appears on Jennell Hawkins' "The Mess Around," and the remaining three songs are taken by Donald Woods & the Vel-Aires, whose melodramatic doo wop crosses the line to pathos with "Death of an Angel." Unless you're particularly insistent on collecting original cover art and vinyl, you should get the CD compilation Flip Hits! and Misses, which has all 12 of the tracks on the LP, plus 18 others the label recorded between the mid-'50s and early '60s.
