Description
Superb mono deep groove investment grade pressing of Donald Byrd's Blue Note release 4019, 'Byrd in Hand'. It was recorded at Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack New Jersey May 31 1959. Has RVG and EAR in the dead wax. This LP is in excellent condition. The vinyl has a nice satin lustre and no scuffs or scratches it weighs in at 195.4 grams. Please watch and listen to the youtube video we made to get an inkling of how nice this record plays and what a tasty morsel of hard bop "Byrd in Hand" represents.

The Cover is also excellent. I have seen copies of this LP where the rich orange hues on the front are faded to yellow. This one does not have that problem. The only fading is on the spine as that was only part of the jacket exposed to light. Speaking of the spine it's nice and easy to read and seams are all tight, strong, unbreached and the corners are pretty nice as well with only the hint of a bump. The back has a bit of mottling due to age that affects tiny fragments of the text in a small area in the very middle of the back. The text is still easily read. No after manufacture writing, markings or cut-out indicators any where. Over all this is a pretty sweet package certainly the nicest original Bluenote 4019 mono to grace ebay's auction listings in quite some time.
Record Grading: Very Good Plus Plus Plus (VG+++)
Side 1. Looks very nice, It is obvious that this record was played with great care on high end turntable. The record has a like new appearance with decent lustre There are some light spindle marks around the hole and some indication that a needle spun around in the glossy dead wax at the end of the record
Side 2: Same as side one.
Label: Blue/White "BLUE NOTE RECORDS • 47 WEST 63rd ? NYC" Deep Groove on both sides.
Matrix: "RVG" machine stamp on both sides. "ear" mark on both sides.
Sleeve Grading: Very Good Plus (VG++)
Front/Back: Laminated cover -Front is excellent no fading nice clean glossy appearance, corners are remarkable for the age darn near perfect. There is a tiny bit of fading to the spine, otherwise it is fantastic, glossy east to read text, the other edges are in top condition as well no tape or glue or worrisome signs of wear. The main knock to the jacket is on the back where there is some mottling to the text right in the middle of the back. Fragments of a few words are missing. It still totally readable however.
Record Grading Scale
NM NEAR MINT = One slight flaw, everything else just like brand new.
VG+++ Just below Near Mint. Must look and play beautifully but under close inspection may show a few spindle marks and there may be a tiny bit of surface sound when cuing up between tracks or when nothing else is playing.
VG++ There may be a very few scratches deep enough to hear on occasion but not enough to outweigh the enjoyment of a rich analogue experience.
VG+ VERY GOOD PLUS = Has a few more minor scratches and scuffs which shouldn't affect play.
VG VERY GOOD = More scratches and scuffs than VG+, but still in fairly nice condition.
G+ GOOD PLUS = Record should play but expect smatterings of surface surface noise throughout.
