Don Was returns to his roots with Groove in the Face of Adversity, a heartfelt tribute to Detroit's musical DNA. Leading the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, a powerhouse lineup featuring Dave McMurray, Luis Resto, Vincent Chandler, John Douglas and others - Was fuses soul, jazz and funk into something unmistakably local but globally resonant. The album's pulse runs on that Motor City rhythm: unvarnished, communal, groove-first. Tracks like 'Midnight Marauders' and 'You Asked, I Came' radiate warmth and grit while the closing 'Insane' captures the band at full fire. It's a record about place, perseverance and pride - Detroit spirit rendered in bass, brass and heart.
