DON RENDELL/IAN CARR QUINTET – Phase III * ORIG Columbia (Lansdowne Series) LP * SCX 6214 (UK, Stereo, 1968)
Happy to present this incredible British jazz album featuring some of the cream of 1960’s talent and containing many great moments including the amazing ‘Black Marigolds’. I can bring you superb vinyl on this copy and a very satisfactory sleeve.
The sleeve was made in the UK by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. It’s the original non-laminated, tri flipback design. Always very difficult to find in a decent condition due to not being laminated, this one isn’t too bad but shows the following signs of use: slight ring impression to the front including a patch of rubbing to the bottom section here; rubbing to the top edge and heavier rubbing to the bottom one; some dirt rubbing to the rear panel (not severe); appreciable corner wear and a couple of creases to the front (none to the rear). It’s still structurally solid and lies perfectly flat with no major or drastic faults. There are NO splits or tears, no writing, no stickers or residue. Sharp opening edges. All 3 flipbacks are solidly glued without nicks or lifts and the spine is without damage – slightly discloured but with all text perfectly legible and no real compression. Overall a very satisfactory example which grades a solid a true VG (Very Good).
The original black and blue Columbia labels are in a fabulous condition. No writing, no scrapes, nicks or tears. I can make out only ONE tiny spindle trace to one side only – none to the other. A superb pair of these vintage labels!
The medium weight vinyl is a really nice example. Visually, there’s little to fault. Possibly one or two super light lines. Very slight edge warp (no effect whatsoever on play). NO scratches or scuff patches, NO bobbles, craters or embedded dirt. Still maintains a fabulous shine and looks close to mint. By all evidence this disc looks to have been very seldom played. Visually grades EX+ (Excellent Plus). IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and I’m happy to report that it plays beautifully. I picked up nothing of any note to impair you listening enjoyment of this seminal disc. So that’s no snap, crackle or pops, no clicks or hiss. There’s no distortion, groove wear or loss of clarity/lack of definition. Possibly the odd light tick but even the quiet sections sound clear and fresh. Play grade at least matches the visual one.
Lovely copy of a superbly executed set. Presented in its original EMI advertising inner sleeve.
No reserve.
