DON RENDELL IAN CARR QUINTET - PHASE III
1968 UK 1st press jazz rarity with sparingly played gleaming vinyl and crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout
Excellent (EX) condition vinyl - the appearance of the vinyl is a very good plus (VG+) : gorgeous jet black sheen and in normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as virtually unmarked. Closer scrutiny under a bright light does reveal the odd small surface scuff mark, a very small area of "shadowing" on side 2 towards the circumference, and just a few very wispy surface hairlines (including a 5cm extremely wispy hairline on side 1), but each is non-obvious, obviously non-feelable, and appears to be purely superficial. The reason for lifting the grading from "VG+" to "EX" is that the stereo sound quality is simply brilliant, with barely a single click and virtually no background crackle at all - wonderful! Excellent plus (EX+) condition labels : very close inspection under a bright light reveals just a couple of small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, but no other blemish at all with the 1st press "K" & "T" tax code sitting nicely embossed upon the side 1 label. Very good plus (VG+) condition non-laminated Garrod & Lofthouse outer sleeve - firm edges but with intermittent mild scuffing on the top and bottom edges, a firm spine with 1st press "pinched" ends in near perfect condition and with all spine text remaining impressively intact, no cardboard creasing, the opening edges are firm with no fraying, each corner is a nicely defined right angle with just a little rubbing on each, each flipback on the reverse side remains in great shape, and there is no unwanted writing. Apart from the intermittent top and bottom edge scuffing the only other blemish is a few small and very mild handling/storage marks on the reverse side. All colours, art work, text and front-side photo remain in excellent crystal clear definition. Take a good look at my photos where I have tried to provide a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this iconic sleeve - hard to believe that this copy is 58 years of age. Truly excellent (EX) stereo audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion, interference, or background crackle - just crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout with great tone, and each and every track remaining a great listen...exactly as you would expect from this assemblage of jazz luminaries : Don Rendell (tenor & soprano saxophone, flute), Ian Carr (trumpet, fluegal horn), Joe Harriot (alto saxophone), Dave Green (bass), Michael Garrick (piano), and Trevor Tomkins (drums). You might come across just a couple of very, very mild and background clicks on side 2 but nothing more than you would expect from a new record (either static or a speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of upright storage). Comes with excellent (EX) condition original EMI advertising inner sleeve with a single 4cm side split but virtually no age discolouration, no edge fraying, and barely any creasing. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. Hard to believe that this UK 1st press jazz rarity is 58 years of age - but easy to understand why it is so sought after.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
