1969 UK ORIGINAL MONO FIRST PRESSING - on the COLUMBIA label, SX 6316

Matrix Numbers : Side 1  XAX 3780 1U - 1, stampers "1" and "G";  Side 2  XAX 3781 1U - 1, stampers "1" and "G"

Note the "G" stampers, denoting a true first pressing of this highly sought after jazz gem, even rarer and more sough after as part of the coveted "Lansdowne Series"

Near perfect audio with no jumps or distortion, no clicking, no background interference. There are a couple of nano seconds of static but it's negligible.

Simply stunning audio quality with all the detail you would expect on a high quality late 60's heavy duty Columbia piece of vinyl - such detail

is simply lost during the re-mastering and compression process for digitisation into CD format. Just compare Don Rendell's clarinet playing on Voices 

on this record to the CD version - it's far superior in vinyl format.

The Vinyl is in excellent+ condition (I am so tempted to grade as "near mint"). Both sides of the vinyl gleam. Completely flat, thick, perfect edges and a wonderful sheen. Virtually unmarked apart from

just a couple of very, very light wispy hairlines and barely detectable small paper scuffs (even under a bright light these are hard to detect). Wonderful!

Labels are perfect with no marks at all on on either side - the photos don't do the labels justice - in the photos the labels look to be in excellent condition - they are better than that!

The front side laminated, and reverse side flipback, outer sleeve is not quite up to the same wonderful condition as the vinyl. Unfortunately a previous owner sellotaped the border of the sleeve

to protect from rubbing and/or scuffing.The sellotape has since been removed but has resulted in some mild (but fairly obvious) staining around the edge borders (see photographs). There is also 

a little ring wear on both sides of the outer sleeve with some ring wear scuffing on the reverse, and some slight scuffing on the bottom edge. The reverse side bottom edge flipback also has a little 

fraying (easy repairable). The good news is that there is no scuffing or rubbing on either the spine of the top edge, all text on the reverse side is unblemished and perfectly legible, and there is no unwanted 

writing or doodles.

The artists on this album are Don Rendell (Tenor, Soprano Sax, Flute), Ian Carr (Trumpet, Flugelhorn), Michael Garrick (Piano), Dave Green (Bass), Trevor Tomkins (Drums) - these guys set the jazz world alight -

listen to these tracks in glorious perfect mono and you'll discover why. Superb stuff.

I take care in removing the record from the outer sleeve and properly protecting it in a separate white inner sleeve in order to prevent outer sleeve damage in transit, and for items that sell for over £40 to non-UK bidders I insist upon postal insurance so please wait for an invoice before paying. I do discount P&P for multiple purchases. I do NOT profiteer from postage costs. I DO take great care in minimising all risk thereby ensuring, as far as possible, that your purchase reaches it's destination in exactly the same condition as when I post it. Descriptions of any records I sell comply with the Rare Record Price Guide grading guidelines :

Mint

Description: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

Description: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packag­ing might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

Description: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable sur­face marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

Description: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

Fair 

Description: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for prop­erly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

Description: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

Description: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
