Dick Morrissey came onto the scene at the start of the 60's in the wake of Tubby Hayes and started to attract aloyal following at The Marque with his Hard Bop playing.
With his Quartet he played at many London venues andwas especially appreciated at Ronnie Scotts.
In 1969 he teamed up with Terry Smith to form Jazz rockgroup IF, and when the group disbanded in 1975 he went
on tour in Germany with Alexis Korner and then to the States to tour and record with the Average White Band.
He met Jim Mullen, sometime guitarist with Brian Auger's Oblivion Express and with some AWB members
Morrissey-Mullen cut an album UP in 1976.On returning toEngland they formed a band M-M which became the most
appreciated Jazz Fusion Band of the time. He guested with other bands and musicians and it was his ability and perception
to take different styles and give them his own individual take that made him so much an admired and indispensable musician.
His marriage of jazz, bop, soul, and rock is a fitting epitaph.
