Description

Dan Bejar’s latest incarnation often take sonic cues from a distinctly British (usually Scottish, to be precise) strain of sophisti-pop, with nods to the likes of Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout, Orange Juice, and The Blow Monkeys.

The Canadian has, however, always displayed chameleonic tendencies, as displayed on the record’s bookends, Times Square Poison Season I and II.

“The first and last songs are actually one song tracked live with quintet,” he explains.

“That song always swung between super austere and super mid-’70s Springsteen/Bowie street-rock - in the end, I decided I wanted both.

“I couldn’t really figure out a way to sequence the orchestral version within the record, so I decided to carve it up as a book-ending motif, with the rock version squarely in the middle.”

With discerning music fans now well versed in Dan Bejar’s incredible skills, Poison Season is poised to become  one  of  2015’s  most  critically  adored  and  well

revered records.
