Description
DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN by Richard Wagner
First full recording with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Georg Solti. In the wikipedia: “Solti's most celebrated recording was Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen made in Vienna, produced by Culshaw, between 1958 and 1965. It has twice been voted the greatest recording ever made, the first poll being among readers of Gramophone magazine in 1999, and the second of professional music critics in 2011, for the BBC's Music Magazine.”
Back in the day when I was flipping burgers for a living I took some of my hard earned minimum wage dollars and bought this set of LPs. I’ve only played them twice since then with a turntable with a one gram tracking weight. It’s tough to listen to a piece of music that takes over 15 hours of playing time. I’ve been to live performances of the Ring twice.
This set contains 19 LPs. The case is a little scuffed up and there’s a split on the edge of the case you can see in the 4th picture above. The LPs themselves are in excellent shape. They haven’t warped over the years. This set also contains a book, Ring Resounding, by John Culshaw on the making of this recording. Lots of good behind the scenes gossip.
