Description

Totally unknown private press from 1968 by college kids? stoners? who do a mix of stuff along the lines of Jim Kweskin Jugband etc...turned on olde-time roots with some trippy moves like the bizarre opening freakout & the weird almost experimental last track. In between they cover Sopwith Camel, Lovin' Spoonful, Beatles along with tracks like "Grandfather's Clock", "Evolution Mama", "The Eggplant", "Turkey Knob" etc...in fact this is the garage-band equivalent of the jugband hippie bag. Full name of band is Department Of Agriculture Jug, Bluegrass, and Olde Time Shake Band. Title of LP is "Music In a Jugular Vein" and it's on their own "Throat Mallet Productions". No doubt these guys also had Holy Modal Rounders LPs in their collections...VG++/VG++ overall, some light scuffs, a few crackles but try and find another copy of this. LP opens with "Did you really buy this LP?"...then crazy laughter, then "You Die Now!" with echo effect...whatta buncha nuts! They play good, too. I called it 'psych' in the heading to get the attention of certain collectors, but it is really not psych except for the odd bits, but fits right in with the weed burnin' jugband movement of the '60s, perhaps the most obscure example of that scene.
