DEERFIELD 'Nil Desperandum' LP (US, Flat Rock Records, Catalogue #FRS 1) WAREHOUS FIND! Brand new/unplayed ORIGINAL 1971 FLAT ROCK RECORDS LABEL PRESSING of 1971 US underground Psychedelic/Country/Rural Rock LP by entitled Nil Desperandum by Texas band Deerfield. Never reissued on vinyl since original release and, yes, the Kak and late-period Beatles (White Album, especially) comparisons are apt. Excellent LP!

Original copies from 1971 of this private press release by this obscure Texas late night psych rock band. Some acid fuzz guitars, organ, mandolin, autoharp, pedal steel, bass, drums and male vocals, overall, they're more of a rock band, with some psych and roots rock touches. All copies in original shrink, although on some that shrink has come apart, shredded, or opened up. The LP saw scant distribution outside of the Houston area, but is now a solid, sought after collector's item.
'Man From Barnaby' has lots of backwards swirling guitar; 'Kitty Is A Lady' has a hint of Buffalo Springfield and 'Family Comfort' goes further down that trail, being an acoustic piece with some nice fuzztone leads added. 'The Great Rio Grande Border Run' is an acoustic-led Texan hoedown-type affair with whoops, yee-hahs and 'rattlesnake' maracas, which can be quite compelling, as it goes. 'Better Way' is a straight rocker, reminiscent of Moby Grape and with a suitably tasty guitar break. On side two, we get 'The Trilogy', which is essentially 3 different tracks run together as one long 12-minute piece. It starts out with some John Cipollina-ish guitar, which leads into a Springfield-ish ballad ('Do You Believe In Words?'), then a vibrant acoustic guitar passage which winds up in a clap-your-hands sing-a-long ('Sing Together'), followed by a mellow, melodic harmony piece called 'Relax (Enjoy Your Friends’). Interesting stuff. "On their 1971 debut, Nil Desperandum, Deerfield occasionally show the vaguest hints of heaviness -- white-lightning guitar runs, for instance -- but mostly follow a decidedly divergent path, one that emphasizes a laid-back charm and textured group harmonies. The album is a smiling, fresh-faced effort, permeated by a good-time communal vibe so full of country goodwill that it melts away any possibility for cynicism. While Nil Desperandum is without question a rock & roll album, roots music is an important formative influence on the record — and not just the normal, blues-based infatuation most of Deerfield's Lone Star peers favored. Its rootsy amalgam strongly recalls the Grateful Dead, and, indeed, there are strong strains of Workingman's Dead and American Beauty on the loping title track, the effervescent 'Kitty Is a Lady,' and 'Me Lovin’ You' that rarely sound like affectations. Sunny, CSNY/America-like harmonies pop up on occasion, and there are fingerprints of Buffalo Springfield all over the songwriting. Many of their contemporaries couldn't shoehorn such overt influences into a personal hybrid, but there's something singularly appealing about Deerfield's music.""This is a solid LP. With the exception of a few odd-sized items, ALL LPs are packaged for shipment and sent to you in PROFESSIONAL QUALITY, SUPERIOR RECTANGULAR SHAPED, CORNER-PROTECTING CORRUGATED CARDBOARD RECORD MAILERS WITH FILLER PADS. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!
We are record collectors here, too, and we pledge to package your records (or any other item) in a way in which we would like to have records/other items packaged, sent to us and received by us as well.
When packaging up records that are non-factory sealed items (as is standard for many import releases) or are open "used" items for shipment, we remove the LP and inner-sleeve from the album cover and place them on the outside of the cover to protect the cover from being subjected to any potential seam-splitting during transit.
When packaging up factory sealed records for shipment, we leave the item sealed, intact, as is. HOWEVER. If a customer REQUESTS that we unseal a factory sealed record to send with the LP and inner sleeve on the outside of the cover (to protect the cover from any potential seam-splitting during transit) we will do so. Please be sure to make this make this request of unsealing your record for shipment if that is your packaging preference.
When packaging up non-factory sealed items (or factory sealed items that have been unsealed at the buyer's request) that have custom company or other manner of printed inner-sleeves, we remove the record from those printed inner sleeves (returning the printed inner sleeves back into the album cover) and place them inside brand new, generic white paper inner sleeves, which are then placed on the outside of the album cover to protect both the album cover AND the original printed inner sleeves from being subjected to any potential seam splitting during transit. We do this for all new AND used items that are in our stock.
All LPs, be they new or used, are sheathed inside of new, protective plastic outer sleeves (with the exceptions of space or weight limitations that may occur with packaging your items - such exceptions will take place when they allow for a lower cost of shipping charged for your total order.)

(Note: Cassettes sent to international addresses will be packaged in a larger box of some appropriate size configuration to accommodate the size and application of mailing/customs labels sent to international addresses.)
All Cassettes and CDs or records that come packaged in odd-sized or odd-custom packaging are sent to you in quality corrugated cardboard boxes of various unspecified dimensions, with various sorts of interior padding (styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap, cardboard filler pads, etc.) to protect and preserve your items.
