THIS ALBUM WAS THE FIRST RELEASE ON EMI's NEW HARVEST LABEL AND THIS COPY IS ONE OF THE VERY EARLIEST ISSUED WITH THE LABEL CARRYING THE 'SOLD IN THE UK...' TEXT
AND IT'S IN EXCELLENT CONDITION (play-graded at a loud volume - which is how I always listen to my LPs before listing) - THE AUDIO REPRODUCTION IS SUPERB WITH A PRONOUNCED, DEFINED 60s SOUND BUT WITH TELLTALE TOUCHES OF WHAT WAS COME TO COME THE FOLLOWING YEAR - 'DEEP PURPLE IN ROCK'

THE LP HAS THE FIRST ISSUE HARVEST LABELS WHICH HAVE 'THE GRAMOPHONE CO LTD...' RIM TEXT AND NO BOXED EMI LOGO AND ALSO CONTAIN THE 'SOLD IN THE UK..' FOUR LINE TEXT WHICH WAS DISCONTINUED IN SUMMER 1969 SO IS ONLY FOUND ON THE VERY EARLIEST COPIES RELEASED

EXCELLENT COPY WHICH PLAYS VERY WELL INDEED - DIFFICULT TO FIND AS A UK FIRST PRESSING, ESPECIALLY SUCH AN EARLY EXAMPLE

The Book of Taliesyn is the second album by Deep Purple, released in 1969 by EMI's Harvest Records in the UK.
This version of the band features vocalist Rod Evans, and bassist Nick Simper, along with mainstays Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice.
The album follows the psychedelic/progressive rock sound of Shades of Deep Purple; however, there is a harder edge to several songs, beginning to show the new sound Deep Purple would introduce in 1970 with Deep Purple in Rock.
There are three cover versions on the album - "Kentucky Woman", originally from Neil Diamond, "We Can Work It Out" from the Beatles and "River Deep Mountain High", known from Ike and Tina Turner version.
The album's name is taken from a famous 14th century Welsh manuscript including certain poems attributed to the 6th century poet Taliesin.

LABELS: The labels are very CLEAN and BRIGHT with NO unwanted marks/writing and only a few light spindle traces. There is the remains of sticker on the side one label which has not caused any label damage (please see close-up photo) (which could probably be removed - but I will leave that up to the winning bidder). This is probably the remnant of a PROMO/FACTORY SAMPLE sticker (as I see no other reason for a sticker to be on the label) as the incredibly low stamper letters indicate that this copy is one of the earliest pressings made and was probably sent out early to a reviewer or radio station
VINYL Visual: The vinyl still retains its DEEP, GLOSSY SHEEN with some light marks and what looks like transfer form the plastic lining of the inner but these marks have little audio consequence
VINYL Audio: CRYSTAL CLEAR, SHARP and STRONG AUDIO. The LP has a surprisingly quiet cut but when played at a LOUD volume there are NO jumps, NO sticks, NO scratches and only some light patches of surface crackle and some pops between some (not all) of the tracks and on some (again, not all) of the quieter sections otherwise, the the record sounds GREAT and plays extremely well with GREAT CLARITY, NO groove-wear and NO distortion. Strictly graded VERY GOOD++ / EXCELLENT for audio. VERY NICE COPY
SLEEVE: The front laminated EJ DAY gatefold sleeve is strictly graded VERY GOOD++. The laminate has a DEEP GLOSS with NO rubbing on the front and only light record impression on the back and the matte inside is CLEAN, FRESH and UNMARKED. The edges display little sign of storage wear and the spine is straight and true with all text CLEAR and BOLD. The only real downside is a small split to the central top edge which houses the LP (2.5 cms - very minor) and a small crease to the bottom corner of the sleeve
