On offer here, from my own collection, is an original UK 1st PRESS LP of the 1969 self-titled third album "DEEP PURPLE" by the legendary British heavy progressive rock band "DEEP PURPLE".

 The cover of the record is a copy of the fabulous painting from the Dutch master Hieronymous Bosch: "The Garden of Earthly Delights". Great artwork.

The archetypal hard progressive rock band, hugely influential, and still alive and well after almost 40 years, DEEP PURPLE were formed in Hertford (England) in 1968. Their earliest line-up (known as Mark I) featured guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, drummer Ian Paice (who was to be the only constant member in all the numerous incarnations of the band), keyboardist Jon Lord, bassist Nick Simper and vocalist Rod Evans. Their first album, "Shades of Deep Purple", included a cover of Joe South's "Hush", which became a big hit in the USA. The following two albums were definitely more progressive in tone, especially their third, self-titled album, which saw Lord's masterful, classically-influenced use of the B3 Hammond organ steal the limelight.

This is probably the most progressive - and best - Deep Purple album.

There's not one single bad track on this album! I was stunned when I first heard Blind, and Lord's magnificent harpsichord solos in it. For years it remained my fave DP track, and one of all time faves. The transition from Fault Line (a very original track for the time, with reversed tape) to Painter is something like an early DP trademark (remember Happiness to I'm so Glad and Exposition to We Can Work It Out) this time with the exception that the vocal track is not a cover!

The conclusion, April, is the first of DP masterpieces, and probably their only suite (with the exception of Concerto, which may not be regarded as suite..), showing hints of what was to come: Concerto. This one is even better than Concerto (though, unlike some, I love Concerto) and has everything you might expect from a multi-part prog-rock suite. April alone is worth buying the album for!!

This rarely seen original 1969 UK Harvest Records 1st pressing vinyl LP has the following two relevent and important label features; (1) 'THE GRAMOPHONE CO.LTD...' is printed on label rim , (2) NO EMI BOX LABELS (Please See Photos).

ABSOLUTELY THE VERY FIRST ORIGINAL UK VINYL LP STEREO PRESSING  (A-1 + B-1 Matrix + 1G/1G Stampers) of this, the GREAT self-titled third Deep Purple LP released in 1969. The LP comes housed in it's superb original 'Ernest J.Day & Co' laminated gatefold sleeve featuring a painting by the Dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch !! The vinyl is in excellent condition, still retains it's fully glossy shine and plays with very good sound reproduction as these legendary early UK Harvest label first pressings tend to do. There is just some light surface crackle heard on quieter parts and during the run grooves. The beautiful 'Ernest J.Day' outer laminated gatefold sleeve is in lovely condition as well showing only very light signs of age. This is a very rare opportunity to own this wonderful album. Original UK 1st press copies of this lp rarely turns up for sale these days.

This fabulous Deep Purple album contains some great psychedelic sounds and early progressive work outs, their approach to cover versions was similar in feel to some of the Vanilla Fudge material.

This has to be regarded as a very rare opportunity to obtain a 100% GENUINE ORIGINAL 1st UK PRESSING of this great DEEP PURPLE LP.
