Deep Purple : Stormbringer A1 / B1 1st Press
This first pressing plays to a fantastic standard! This album has been so well preserved and that is reflected in the sonic quality on offer here. It is almost 'as new' from start to finish and the only 'background' is one very light click on the final track. Aside from that it is sheer perfect audio!
The vinyl is visually so impressive and has hardly been played down the years. It is fast approaching 50 years of age let's not forget!
The cover is in superb condition with barely any wear and the original inner is also in excellent shape.
This first press has EMI Records Ltd... around the labels and the A1/B1 matrix with KENDUN stamped on both run out grooves. The cover has the date code of 7411 on the back.

Visual grading
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen. Based on the audio and that there is barely any spindle wear this is clearly a record that has hardly ever been on a turntable. There are only 4/5 specks on S1 and a handful of very faint marks on the first track on S2 but none of this has any affect on the audio. These are only very minor imperfections! There are no obvious marks and no scratches either and I cannot find any obvious hairlines. There is one tiny speck on the final track on S2 which caused the one light click as detailed below. The labels are very clean although the S1 label does have a name faintly written on it and some very faint mottling also.
Play grading
The classic 'Stormbringer' plays with outstanding quality with no interference at all. In essence it plays 'as new' with a clarity, depth and power that could not be improved upon. This is a Mint start to the album no need for a minus here!
The intro on 'Love Don't Mean A Thing' is flawless and this clarity continues throughout. It leans towards that funk direction that Purple were taking and has a very strong and deep sound to go in hand with that. It has lost none of its original sonic quality and Mint is again deserved.
The quiet intro on 'Holy Man' plays perfectly and thereafter plays with stunning precision. There is just one mega light tick on the fade out, nothing more. Perhaps it should still be Mint but I will grade as Mint-
'Hold On' ends the side with 'high end' audio and...no interference. The vocals are so strong and each note is just so clean and precise. This is Mint in every way.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A little more like the Purple we know and love 'Lady Double Dealer' plays with great power and depth from start to finish and again there is no background to be heard. Blackmore's solo is faultless and that applies to every section. There is no distortion and this is yet another Mint track.
'You Can't Do It Right...' and 'High Ball Shooter' both keep up the standard and play with sublime quality throughout. And just to reiterate I play every second of every track so as to provide a 'complete 'grade. There is literally no intrusion on the audio and Mint is and easy grade to give.
The intro on 'The Gypsy' has no background and this clarity is maintained throughout. It is getting harder to describe each track in an individual way but needless to say this is Mint from the first note to the last. Even the fade out plays perfectly.
The quiet intro on the classic 'Soldier Of Fortune' plays beautifully and the first verse is equal to that with only 3/4 barely audible dust ticks. The first chorus plays so clearly with just one very light click followed by an even lighter tick (caused by the barely visible 'speck') but from then on plays with stunning precision. The mid solo is 'as new' and the closing vocal section plays with impeccable clarity and warmth. I often find this end section has some inner groove distortion but that is not the case here! This may well be the strongest version of this classic that I have heard. Yes one light click but you cannot fault the rest of the track. Near Mint is an honest appraisal of the audio.
In summary this first pressing plays with sublime quality and this this is obviously a record that has hardly ever been played. Yes there is one light click on the final track but that is literally the only intrusion across the entire album. I say 'intrusion' but to be honest it is hardly intrusive, it is not a loud click! The clarity, depth and power of the audio throughout is absolutely STUNNING and for once there is no distortion either. What an album!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The G & L cover is in superb condition with no obvious wear. The edges and spine are nigh on perfect and the corners are also in great shape with hardly any wear plus the opening edge has no handling wear either. The front cover is super clean with only a very minor hint of ringwear at the top and a couple of minor faint scratch lines in the bottom left corner. The back cover is in fantastic condition with no wear to be seen. A superb example!
The original 'Plastic Bags...' poly-lined inner is in great shape with no side splits or tears and only very minor age related fading around the edges. There is very little creasing.
